July Episode - In Remembrance

This being the 4th of July weekend, I would like to give remembrance to the numerous men and women who have laid down their lives so we can be in the land of the free and the home of the brave.

In particular I will tell the story of the long forgotten heroes of WWII called the Creature Commandos

During the dark days of WWII the Allies struggle to get a upper hand of over the Axies powers. For that purpose Project M was created. It is a secret government organization that specializes in using highly
experimental biotechnology and necromancy both to enhance human soliders giving them superhuman abilities and have them strike fear into
the hearts of the enemy.

The first success of the project were the initial Creature commandos. They were:

Sgt. Vincent Velcoro – Vincent volunteered for the project in order to commute a 30-year sentence in the brig for fighting with a officer.
He was given the power, strength and abilities of a living Vampire He could now change form into mist, bat or wolf. Though he had no weakness to sunlight,, he he still need blood to survive.

Pvt. Warren Griffith – Warren was a simple farm boy who suffered from clinical lycanthrophapy. Project M gave him the ability to change into
a true Werewolf. Initial his transformations happened uncontrollably , but he soon learned how to master them. Once changed, he had the power, speed, agility and senses of a full grown male werewolf.

Pvt. Elliot "Lucky" Taylor – Lucky barely survived stepping on a mine. He was stitched back together and greatly enhanced, against his will. He was the pinnacle of Project M work. His great strength allowed him to bend steel in his bare hands and easily over turn a Panzar tank. Nothing short of a exploding shell could penetrate his skin. The trade off for this was that he now resembles the Frankenstein monster of legend, In addition his damaged vocal cords left him permanently mute.

One year later, Dr Myrra Rhodes join the team. After a freak lab accident exposed her to experimental chemicals of both a biotech and necromantic nature, all of her hair was turned into a writhing mass of living deadly poisonous snakes. This made her a living gorgon. Over time she also learned the art of temporarily stunning (or "stoning" as she called it) her victims like the Medusa of old.

The Creature Commandos were lead by a tough as nails human solider call Lt. Matthew Shrieve. It was very evident that he had very little respect for the men and woman under his command. The derogatory terms and names he called them show this. I would like to thing in our modern age he would have long been court martialed for his attitudes.

The Creature Commandos performed a number of high successful missions for the US and her allies during WWII. unfortunately most of these msiions are still classified and can not be told.

Often they were joined by another Project M success J.A.K.E. J.A.K.E. was the worlds first self aware robot solider. The original J.A.K.E. sacrificed his life on dangerous mission to save the rest of the commandos. Not long after J.A.K.E. 2 soon join the Creature Commandos serving with them as honorably as his fallen brother.

After WWII, the Creature Commando and J.A.K.E. 2 disappeared from history. The US Military will not comment on this fact even to this day. Official, they are listed as missing in action.

They only written information that can be found is contained in a old Time Warner book series about the bizarre and weird weapons that were made for modern warfare. Some mention of the creature commandos can be found through out volumes 93 thru 124.

The only historical footage of the team in action is was found in this clip DE-classified as part of the information fairness act of 1971
. It can be still seen here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJx_f3FUjJQ

The only memorial every dedicated to them was built over 40 years ago in the Ghastly Grove cemetary. A small graveyard located in southern New Jersey. I will try to get over there to provide pictures of it then post them when I get a chance.

To the Creature Commandos, unsung heroes of WWII. Thank you for serving and protecting us.

New Midnight Syndicte "Monster of Legend" due out July 19th

"Monsters of Legend" to be unleashed July 19th!

From the press release: On July 19th, Midnight Syndicate will release it's sixteenth studio album, "Monsters of Legend." This "tribute to the golden age of horror" will feature sweeping symphonic horror instrumental music and sound effects in the signature style the band pioneered. "We want to make you feel like you are a character in one of those classic horror films - that you've entered a world where any one of the iconic characters from the Universal Horror Films and Hammer Films could be right around the corner," said composer Edward Douglas.

The CD artwork features original images from classic Universal Studios Entertainment horror movies including Bride of Frankenstein, Werewolf of London, and Dracula. "Listeners will hear the influence of the Universal Monster, Hammer, and Euro Horror films from the 30s through the 70s, not only in the music but in the images the songs conjure," added Gavin Goszka. Although the band promises the new disc will deliver the dark atmosphere haunted attractions, roleplaying gamers, and Halloween enthusiasts expect from them, they feel they've crafted a disc that transcends their favorite time of the year. "As we did on Carnival Arcane, we're always trying to take things up a notch both musically and with the sound design. There is a lot going on in this one. Plenty to pull you in, spark your imagination, and keep hold of you anytime you're looking to visit that mysterious place in your mind's eye."

The CD will be available for pre-order the first week in July. In addition to other new merchandise, Entity Productions Halloween Music will be releasing a special edition 12" vinyl version of the "Monsters of Legend" album, hand-numbered and limited to 250 copies.

May Epsiode - PVC candle additional info

Death's Door's - PVC candles in progress (shot 1)

Death's Door's - PVC candles in progress (shot 2)

Death's Door's - PVC candles in progress (Overhead Shot)

General supplies list

  1. PVC plastic piping from hardware store.  You can get them in either 2ft lengths or 10ft lengths.  one 10ft piece will yield a LOT candles. To start with, use the 1.5" diameter size.  It perfectly fits a dollar store type battery tealight. Once you have masterd that, you can get large diameter pipe to play with.   5" size for example would fit 2 or 3 battery tealights.
  2. Battery tealights from any dollar store, Walmart or Target.
  3. Hot Glue gun from a craft store  or Walmart/Target.  We recommend getting a large model to hold the large glue sticks.  Will cut down on time having to switch out glue sticks.
  4. Glue Stick for glue gun - Craft Store/Walmart/Target
  5. Mini Wax Stain - Hardware store
  6.  Sanding paper, light grade - Hardware store, to sand the black letters off the PVC pipe that are placed on them by the manufacturer.
  7. White paint - Hardware store
  8. Chip Brush - Hardware store
  9.  Styrofoam - use can use as piece from a section of insulation foam found at harware stores or just get a small craft piece at a craft store.
  10. Hand saw or electric saw.  This is used to cut the PVC pipe down to the sizes you want (i.e 5" high candles, 3" candles, etc).  Also used to due the angle cut the Death's Door did on her PVC candles to give them a "uneven" melted look. But if you like the "even" melt look, you can skip that step.

Here are some on-line step by step tutorials

http://www.howtohauntyourhouse.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=75:seance-party-table&catid=39:hacked-props
I would check out the other links that are at this site also.  I will be doing a full review on these series of books in a future episode.

http://www.halloweenforum.com/tutorials-step-step/68856-pvc-flicker-candles.html
This version use great stuff expand insulation foam to fill the inside of the pvc camdle.  You can still just use a piece of Styrofoam glued in place to do the job faster and easier.  I would follow all of threads for this post.  The author stated that other Home Haunters had add better ideas for getting this tutorial done.

Episode 0 / Preview show for Home Haunting Jersey Devil Style podcast segment

Here is the narrative for our very first podcast segment:

"Welcome to the 1st episode of Home Haunting Jersey Devil Style.  My name is Grim Ghost. My friends and I formed a group that gets together regularly to make are own Halloween props.  We call ourselves the Jersey Devil Home Haunters.  We picked this name based on all us living in Southern NJ and the local legend who dwells here.

So what is home haunting you ask.  Home haunters are people who are really into Halloween. I am sure that you have seen that one house in your neighborhood that is really done up for Halloween.  Not the ones with just some lights and a jack o’lanterns, but the ones with graveyards, coffins, skeletons fog machines and witches to.  Those are the people who are serious about their Halloween decorating.  And that would be our group.

So for those of you who would like to be home haunters and did not know how to get started or seasoned home haunters who wants more information and tips, this show is for you.

In upcoming episodes we will cover topics like:
a.       Getting started either by getting store bought props or making your own
b.      Homemade Prop building using low cost materials and stuff found around the house.
c.       Getting ideas for your props from the web and Youtube.
d.      Finding online forums devoted to Home Haunting.  These forums are great for getting prop ideas and tutorials.  They are also a great way to make new home haunting friends or find a local home haunting group near you.
e.      Halloween Trade shows and Conventions. Events and happenings related to Halloween.
f.        Reviews of Books about Home Haunting, Halloween parties and the History of the Halloween itself.
g.       For those home haunters with children, we will discuss Family-related things to do like
                                                               i.      Halloween Projects for kids
ii.      Halloween themed movies/specials for kids
h.      And lastly what Things to do during the off Halloween Season.  One such activity is to participate in is the Krampus parades and activities that happen in December. Krampus, whos that you say.  Well that is a subject for later in the year.  Hopefully I can get my friends over at the Philadelphia Krampuslauf to come on an episode and explain more about Krampus.  Till then good  listeners just Google him and you will find out.

Since it would be impossible to present everything we talked in just a audio podcast segment.  I have come up with both a Blogspot  page and Facebook page to provide visual support.  The pages will have the instructions, links, pictures and websites for the topics we will cover in each show segment. Our blogspot is (http://hhjds.blogspot.com/ and to find our FB page, just search for Home Haunting Jersey Devil Style.

Since this is the first episode, I will present something quick and easy to do.  Go to    www.hauntproject.com  and check it out.  This website is the premiere place to get ideas and tutorials on making home haunting props.  It is a great place to start if you are either a beginner home haunter or even a seasoned one looking for prop ideas.

Well that’s all for now. Our next show will be recorded at one of our Home Haunt gatherings.  In it we will provide some starter prop building ideas and how to get started with online forums.

Lastly I would like to Thank Mr Steve Harrison for letting us use a verse from his great Jersey Devil song as our show intro.  Portrait, the album that it is on can be found on Amazon.com.  Just search for Steve Harrison and Crosscountry under Music and MP3 and it will come up (Also just click on the highlighted name and it will go to Amazon for you).  I will also have a link to the album and his youtube page on the blogspot page.

That’s all for now listeners.  This has been Grim Ghost, In Dark Service to the Nightmare that is Halloween, signing off."

Home Haunting Jersy Devil Style is Live on the 6FT Plus podcast

The Preview show, episode 0, of our audio podcast segment premiered today on the 6Ft Plus Spooky Music podcast.  Go check it out, it is Episode 56 "Witches be Trippin".  Just click on the episode name, then click the "download" link on the page that opens up.

This just the 1st show/preview show, so it is short.  Future episodes will have more content.

6Ft Plus is  a weekly music podcast devoted to presenting spooky horror music that has a basic rock-a-billy/goth-a-billy type feel to it.  Give them a try.  I find it to be a excellent show to find new "Halloween" type music that normally would never be exposed to.
